Why try compounded weight loss injections?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist medication that helps control appetite and slow digestion. It’s the active ingredient in Ozempic®* and Wegovy®*. Tirzepatide is a GLP-1/GIP dual-agonist medication that lowers blood sugar levels, slows digestion, and helps control appetite. It’s the active ingredient in Mounjaro®* and Zepbound®*. Our compounding pharmacy partners source Semaglutide and Tirzepatide from FDA-registered facilities and prepare them for patient use—so you can trust the medication moving through your body.

Shed It

Who qualifies for prescription weight loss medications?

Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are prescription weight loss treatments for adults with a BMI of or above 27. Some people shouldn’t take these medications even if they have this BMI. Your provider will let you know if one of these medical weight loss solutions suits your situation.

What’s included?

The Shed It monthly* fee includes:

  • A monthly consultation with a licensed provider.
  • Unlimited support check-ins with the Dr. B team.
  • Injectable weight loss medication (compounded or brand-name) delivered via express shipping and all the materials you need to take the medication at home safely (1 dose per week, 4 doses per month).
  • Yearly blood work at Quest Diagnostics.
  • A Letter of Medical Necessity to help you unlock HSA/FSA funds for fitness.
  • Dedicated weekly support emails and articles covering medication guidance, nutrition, movement, mental health and financial education.
  • Digital content from our partners, like nutrition and exercise materials.

*Monthly fees are charged every 4 weeks to represent 4 weeks of prescription medication dosage.

What is not included?

Shed It fees do not include partner gym or fitness class fees or other medication fees.

If you choose to sign up for a membership to their gym, studio or live classes, you’ll most likely have to pay a separate membership fee. However, if you have an HSA/FSA, the Letter of Medical Necessity we’ll provide (at no cost) can help you save on those fees.

If you’re prescribed medications to help with side effects (like nausea medication) through a Shed It consultation, a provider will send the prescription to your chosen pharmacy. You can pay for the medication with your health insurance coverage or a drug discount card (that we will supply).

Why are your prescription weight loss medications so cheap compared to others?

Many health insurers do not cover brand-name GLP-1 medications for weight loss, so patients often pay their high costs out of pocket.

Dr. B has sourced safe, effective Semaglutide and Tirzepatide injection medications from compounding pharmacies. Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are the active ingredients in brand-name GLP-1 weight-loss medications (some of which Dr. B also offers). Compounding pharmacies can set reasonable drug prices because they produce injections for weight loss themselves and have fewer middlemen.

Will I have to do phone or video appointments?

Telehealth laws differ by state, so patients in some states are required to have a live phone or video consult with a provider to adhere to their state laws. Other patients may have to do a live consult if a provider needs clarification about answers submitted in the chat consultation to ensure their treatment option is accurate, safe and effective.

Patients can also request a live consult with a provider if they feel they would get extra peace of mind from a bit of face-to-face time.

Patients can also request a provider callback to discuss questions or concerns throughout the program—we’ve included such check-ins in the ongoing care cost!

How often will I have to check in with a provider?

You’ll do a follow-up consultation with a provider before they can issue your monthly prescription refill. For most patients, that means once every four weeks until you hit your maintenance dose. After that, you’ll move to three-month refills and one consultation every three months.

How will the medication be delivered to me?

The medication will be shipped from a compounding pharmacy via express shipping. You’ll receive shipping information (including a tracking number) and instructions on how to store your medication.

Cost, payment and insurance

What is the lowest starting monthly cost of this program?

Shed It monthly fees start at $249. That starting fee includes a chat consultation, 4 weeks of compounded Semaglutide medication (at the lowest dose), shipping fees, injection materials, Dr. B support tools and more. It reflects the application of our Prove You Move™ reward, which encourages regular fitness by discounting $50 from the monthly program fee for those who attest that they will exercise at least 3 times per week at home or at a gym/studio.

Will the monthly cost increase as my medication dosage increases?

Yes, the cost will increase when your medication dosage level increases.

Once you hit your maintenance level, your prescriber will send a 3-month prescription to your compounding pharmacy. You’ll only have to do a check-in consultation every 3 months, but you will continue to get your medication shipped and your card charged every 4 weeks.

How will I be billed for this program?

If a provider decides that prescription weight loss medication is right for you and sends the prescription to a compounding pharmacy, Dr. B will email you an invoice detailing the cost of your program. This invoice must be paid before Dr. B can release your medication or proceed with further treatment.

What do I need to do to get the Prove You Move™ discount?

In your first consultation, if you state that you’ll commit to working out at least three times a week for one month, we’ll apply the $50 Prove You Move™ discount to your Shed It fee. Then we’ll check in on your progress once a week via text.

Our support materials explain in detail why exercise is vital to health for those taking weight loss injection medications and offer some general exercise targets. But you know your body best. So we trust you to choose a movement plan that’s best for you.

Do you accept insurance?

Dr. B doesn’t accept insurance at this time.

What if I don’t like the program? Do you provide refunds?

We don’t provide refunds. But you can cancel your treatment at any time from your patient dashboard.

GLP-1 weight loss for non-diabetics

How do Semaglutide and Tirzepatide work?

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist medication. That means it acts like the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) hormone naturally made by the body. GLP-1 slows digestion, so food takes longer to leave your stomach. This can help you feel fuller longer, controlling appetite and reducing calorie consumption. It also encourages the secretion of insulin, which helps control blood sugar levels. The combination of a reduced appetite and lowered blood sugar levels can help some people eat less and lose weight.

Tirzepatide is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor co-agonist medication. That means it mimics the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) hormones released in the intestines as we eat. These hormones slow digestion and control appetite, which can help keep blood sugar levels steady. GIP may also encourage metabolism and reduce inflammation. Altogether, these support healthier eating habits and weight loss.

How much weight can I lose on GLP-1 weight loss medications?

Total weight loss will be different for everyone. But most people lose between 5% to 20% of their starting body weight while taking compounded Semaglutide. That means that if you weigh 200 lb, you could lose between 10 and 40 pounds.

Because Tirzepatide mimics the effect of two powerful hormones, studies suggest patients may lose more weight within one year on Tirzepatide than they will on Semaglutide. But because of its dual action, it costs a little more than Semaglutide.

Your provider will work with you to choose the medication that’s best for you and adjust the dosage for optimal results.

What are the risks of taking Semaglutide/Tirzepatide?

Like all medications, there are some risks to taking GLP-1 weight loss medications—and it’s important to talk to your doctor about the risks and any health conditions you have before starting any medical weight loss treatment.

This is not a complete list. But for both Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, serious issues include pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) and thyroid tumors. Some people experience low blood sugar—especially if they take other diabetes medications. People who are pregnant, breastfeeding or may become pregnant should talk to their provider before starting Semaglutide/Tirzepatide since they are not safe to use during pregnancy.

How do compounded Semaglutide and Tirzerpatide compare to brand-name medical weight loss solutions?

Semaglutide is the active ingredient in brand-name medical weight loss options like Ozempic®* and Wegovy®*. It’s what makes those injectable GLP-1 medications work. Tirzepatide is the active ingredient in the diabetes medication Mounjaro®* and the prescription weight loss medication Zepbound®*. It’s what makes those injectible GLP-1/GIP medications work.

*Ozempic®,Wegovy®, Mounjaro® and Zepbound®are registered trademarks of their respective owners. Our use of these names is for informational purposes only and does not imply any affiliation, endorsement or approval by the trademark holders.

What exactly is a compounded medication?

A compounded medicine is custom-made by pharmacists. It might involve mixing different ingredients to create a specific medication dose or form (like a liquid or cream) when standard medications aren't suitable or if the correct dose isn't available. Compounded medications can also relieve drug shortages when brand-name medications aren’t available so that patients can get the treatments they need—as is currently happening with GLP-1 medications.

It’s important to note that compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Learn more at the FDA.

Are compounded medication injections safe for weight loss?
While the medications they make are not FDA-approved, licensed compounding pharmacies follow strict rules to make sure these medicines are safe and work well, testing their products rigorously to guarantee their potency, safety and stability.
Why are prescription weight loss medications controversial?

These options for medical weight loss can be controversial because the brand-name drugs are often expensive when paid out-of-pocket (since many health insurance plans do not cover them). As they are taken long-term to manage a chronic condition (like cholesterol medicine or blood pressure pills), those costs add up. Also, most people tend to regain weight if they stop taking them.

These drugs can also add to the stigma around weight and health. After all, it’s possible to be healthy even with a higher BMI, and losing weight does not automatically improve health. It's important to talk openly about these concerns with your provider.
