About half of men experience hair loss at some point in their lives. Dr B. offers discreet, virtual consultations to help stop loss and stimulate growth.*Prescription treatment requires a virtual medical consultation with a medical provider to determine if a prescription is appropriate.
Common causes of hair loss are natural aging, stress, hereditary genetics or hormonal changes.
Medical conditions that result in hair loss include severe infections of the scalp, such as folliculitis decalvans, which damages the hair follicles and prevents new hair growth, and alopecia areata, a condition where the body's immune system attacks the hair follicles, resulting in bald spots. Intense shock can also cause hair loss, which is known as telogen effluvium.
Dr. B offers both generic and brand versions of Dutasteride and Finasteride to treat male pattern baldness. Both Dutasteride and Finasteride decrease the level of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male sex hormone, in the body, which slows the rate of hair loss.
Dr. B does not currently offer baldness treatment for those assigned-female-at-birth. Dutasteride and Finasteride cannot be used by women or children.
Dutasteride and Finasteride lower PSA (prostate-specific antigen) levels in those who are assigned-male-at-birth. PSA levels help doctors determine whether someone is at risk for prostate cancer. When Dutasteride and Finasteride are taken, they lower PSA levels, and can skew the results of prostate cancer screenings. Healthcare providers should be alerted to the use of this medication in order to better analyze PSA test results.
Dr. B's current selection of hair loss treatments are taken orally, either as a capsule or tablet.
Common side effects of Dutasteride and Finasteride include impotence, decreased libido, ejaculation disorders (decrease in the amount of semen/sperm released during sex), breast disorders (increased breast size, breast tenderness) and testicle pain or swelling. These symptoms are typically mild and may go away over time. However, stop taking this medication and see your doctor right away if you experience: testicle pain/swelling, an increase in breast size/tenderness or prolonged sexual dysfunction.
