About Podofilox (Generic Condylox)

How does it work?

This medicine stops the diseased cells from making copies of itself. When the virus that causes warts can’t grow and multiply in your skin, the wart eventually goes away. After using this medicine, you might notice that the wart becomes dry and crusty before finally disappearing.

What does it treat?

Podofilox is used to treat genital warts, which are flat, fleshy, skin-colored growths that can appear on or around the genital area. This medicine is only for warts on the skin around the anus, penis and vagina. Don’t use it on other parts of the body or inside the vagina or rectum.

What forms does it come in?

This medication comes as a topical solution or gel that you apply directly to the wart. It's important to follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully when using this medicine.

Podofilox vs. Condylox

Podofilox and Condylox are the same thing – Condylox is just a brand name for the medication. Both versions are equally safe and effective at treating genital warts. Generic medications can be less expensive, depending on your insurance.

How do I use this medication?

Apply this medication directly on the wart using the special applicator, then throw the applicator away. Don’t re-use it or put it back in the container because this could contaminate the medicine. Don’t let the medicine touch healthy skin around the wart if possible. Ask your medical provider how often to use this medicine and for how many days. Usually, this medicine is applied twice a day for three days, followed by a four-day break.

What happens if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. But if it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule. Don't use extra to make up for the missed dose.

What happens if I use too much?

Using too much Podofilox won’t help you get better faster. If you use too much, it can lead to severe skin irritation or other side effects. It's important to follow your licensed provider's instructions carefully and use only the recommended amount.

If you’ve used too much of this medicine, call your health provider or local poison control center (800-222-1222) immediately.
