About Amoxicillin-Clavulanate

How does it work?

Amoxicillin-Clavulanate works by attacking the bacteria that cause infections. Amoxicillin weakens the bacterial cell walls, making it easier for the immune system to destroy them. Clavulanate helps protect Amoxicillin from bacteria that could break it down. This helps Amoxicillin work better in your body.

What does it treat?

This medicine is used to treat bacterial infections like respiratory infections, urinary tract infections and skin infections. It also works for some kinds of sinus infections and ear infections. It won’t work if you have a viral infection, like the flu or common cold.

What forms does it come in?

Amoxicillin-Clavulanate comes as a tablet, chewable tablet and a liquid suspension. There are also extended-release tablets available.

Please note that Amoxicillin-Clavulanate liquid suspension is not listed among the available options on the Dr. B platform at this time.

Amoxicillin-Clavulanate vs. Augmentin

Amoxicillin-Clavulanate and Augmentin are the same medication. Augmentin is just a brand version of this medicine. They both contain the same medicines that help fight bacterial infections.

The brand drug Augmentin is not currently available on the Dr. B platform.

How much will it cost?

Dr. B offers online consultations for $15—which is less than most copays. If a sinus infection prescription is appropriate, your out-of-pocket medication cost will depend on your insurance and where you decide to get your prescription filled. With a drug discount card, prices for Amoxicillin 875 mg-Potassium Clavulanate 125 mg (14 tablets) start at $10.19.
